Assistant Professor(s) of Humanities

The Humanities department at Graceland University invites applications for two full-time, tenure track faculty positions to service our majors in Social Change and Sustainability Studies. The position could begin as early as January 2023 or no later than August 2023. These positions are part of our university’s growth initiative. All candidates will have a terminal degree in any Humanities discipline by August 2023.

The 4/4 teaching load includes (1-2) general education courses in first-year composition and Public Speaking that candidates will be asked to teach each semester. Candidates should highlight their experiences teaching these Humanities core courses in their application.

Our unique department prioritizes developing innovative, interdisciplinary academic programs in the areas of digital media, advocacy and social change, and environmental sustainability. We are looking for candidates who have expertise teaching a variety of courses in communication studies, creative writing, literature, Philosophy, Rhetoric, debate, media studies and production, and environmentalism. Preference will be given to applicants who have interdisciplinary experience in two or more of the above areas listed, but anyone interested in Humanities interdisciplinary work is encouraged to apply regardless of disciplinary background.

Our department is thrilled to be able to offer unique academic programs which encourage students to curate their own educational pathway centered on creating positive impacts on society. Our programs are designed to give students historical and theoretical foundations of the Humanities disciplines while cultivating practical skillsets which make our graduates extremely marketable and successful change-makers in society. The search committee will prioritize candidates who display an interest in innovative programmatic designs within the Humanities disciplines and who have a passion for collaborating with other faculty members to grow these programs. Please indicate your desired start date in your application materials.
