Spanish Faculty Position - Modern Languages

The Modern Languages program at Fort Hays State University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, Instructor or Assistant Professor Non-Tenure Track position in Spanish.  The successful applicant will be expected to teach 24 hours per academic year (typically 13 hours in the fall and 11 in the spring) on campus, including elementary and intermediate Spanish courses along with grammar and composition.  Depending on program need, the finalist may be asked to teach courses in the Spanish for Specific Purposes concentration.  Opportunities may also be available for teaching online in the summer. Apointment Date: August 2023. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MA in Spanish or closely related area from a regionally accredited institution
  • Experience teaching basic and intermediate Spanish courses at the college level
  • Knowledge of current methodologies and best practices in language teaching
  • Evidence of undergraduate mentoring and promoting student engagement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Spanish or closely related area from a regionally accredited institution
  • Experience teaching a wide variety of Spanish courses at the college level
  • Expertise in Spanish for specific purposes / Spanish for the professions
  • Proficiency with a variety of language tools and resources
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly activity and professional development
     

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching primarily on-campus courses in Spanish (60%)
  • Departmental and university service (20%)
  • Scholarly activity and professional development (20%)
