The Department of Classics and Modern Languages at Xavier University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies. The position carries a 3/3 load for those who maintain an active research agenda.

We especially encourage scholars with expertise in one or more of the following areas: transnational and multicultural France with a focus on the Middle Eastern and North African diaspora; Francophone literatures and cultures of the Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Africa, and/or the Caribbean; Critical European Cultural Studies.

Candidates should demonstrate strong interdisciplinary interests and the ability to participate effectively in interdisciplinary programs affiliated with other departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. Candidates should demonstrate the interest and ability to collaborate effectively with other departmental and interdisciplinary programs as we continue to grow our burgeoning program.

Enthusiasm for teaching language and culture at all levels of the curriculum and passion for teaching in a liberal arts environment are essential. The successful candidate will combine the basic qualifications of a generalist with their research specialization. Ph.D. in French, Comparative Literature, or a closely related field; ABD candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates with degree in hand prior to their initial appointment. All candidates must have native or near-native fluency in both French and English, and should demonstrate promise for outstanding teaching and mentoring in the areas of language, literature, and culture.
