Affiliate Faculty of Writing

The Department of Writing seeks a full-time (9-month), non-tenure track position to teach 12-credit hours of first-year writing beginning August 6, 2023. No scholarship expectations or service obligations. An M.A., M.S., M.F.A., or PhD in English, Rhetoric/Composition, Writing (or related field) is required by time of employment. Candidates need to have expertise and experience in teaching college composition; experience teaching writing in a computer lab; strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect, empathy, and cultural humility; creativity and flexibility; and interest in social justice education, inclusion, diversity, and/or intercultural training. Preferred qualifications include graduate coursework in rhetoric and composition, or its professional equivalent, and experience in or a demonstrated understanding of social justice education, inclusion, diversity, and/or intercultural training. The ideal candidate will focus their career on teaching general education writing courses and on continuously developing their professional expertise as a writing instructor. The typical full-time (9-month) teaching load is 12-credit hours per semester, drawn from GVSU's general education writing courses. The position is not tenure track. Individuals will be appointed for one academic year on a full-time basis. This may be renewed once for an additional academic year. Thereafter, such individuals may be appointed for three (3) consecutive academic years. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
