Assistant Professor, I2, French

The Department of Modern Languages and Classics at The University of Alabama invites applications for a non-tenure track renewable contract assistant professor of French starting August 16, 2023. The successful applicant will serve as a coordinator for our international graduate students in French in the department. Duties include evaluation of transfer credits from foreign universities and the ideal candidate will have specific knowledge of university curricula of Sub-Saharan Africa and ideas for diverse international recruitment. The coordinator will also organize and conduct a series of departmental orientations for international students in French. The candidate will serve on graduate committees relevant to his or her specialization(s) and teach a 2:2 load. Evidence of ongoing research is required. Additional essential qualifications include a PhD in French and Francophone Studies in hand by August 15, 2023; native or near-native fluency in French and English; excellence in teaching at all college levels of French and Francophone Studies as a generalist but with demonstrated ability to teach courses related to African francophone literature, culture, and linguistics; ability to teach professional courses in French; commitment to curricular innovation; ability to work collegially and effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
