Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in nineteenth-, twentieth-, and/or twenty-first-century Peninsular Spanish literature and culture. The candidate will be a collaborative, productive scholar with native or near-native fluency in Spanish who is committed to interdisciplinary approaches to the study of texts. This hire will contribute to the Department’s innovative graduate and undergraduate curricula. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is preferred. We seek candidates committed to cooperative approaches to program building. Interests and expertise in any of following fields is also desirable: Catalan, Galician, or Basque literatures and cultures; race and ethnicity; diaspora and migration; environment; theater and performance studies; women, gender, and sexuality studies; aesthetics and technology; digital humanities.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Spanish, Iberian or Hispanic Studies or related field by the time of the appointment.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
