The Department of Professional and Creative Writing at Goucher College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition starting in August 2023. We are looking for a dynamic teacher-scholar who will teach our first-year composition courses, advanced academic writing courses, and develop upper-level undergraduate writing and rhetoric courses for our major in Professional and Creative Writing and our minor in Professional Writing. The course load for this position is five courses per academic year (20 credits). In addition to teaching responsibilities, we seek candidates who will be committed to ongoing scholarly research, as well as service to the department, the college, and the liberal arts.

Our new major in Professional and Creative Writing prepares students for a life of writing. Students may choose between two tracks: Professional Writing and Rhetoric or Creative Writing. In both tracks, students pursue a process-driven and imaginative approach to their writing. The major itself is versatile, giving students the options to excel in the current and future workplace. In addition to our thriving major, we offer minors in Professional Writing and Rhetoric and Creative Writing. We are seeking candidates who can engage at every level of this innovative writing curriculum.

Within our department, our Writing Program builds a bridge between creative and academic writing, and simultaneously establishes a campus-wide interdisciplinary initiative. We draw on current research in the field of Rhetoric and Composition, specifically from Teaching for Transfer, as we continue our work in centering anti-racism in our pedagogies.

The area of specialization is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates whose interests include one or more of the following: digital cultural rhetorics, professional writing, technical writing, first-year writing, or writing program administration.
