Assistant Professor - South Asian/Subcontinent Literatures and Theory, Tenure-Track
Department of Comparative Literature
New York University Arts and Science

The Department of Comparative Literature at NYU seeks applications for a tenure-track position specializing in South Asian/subcontinent literatures and theory at the level of Assistant Professor. We welcome a range of approaches and are especially interested in candidates with a comparative theoretical, interdisciplinary, and/or transmedial approach who can teach and advise students across periods, as well as in critical fields understood transcontinentally. Applicants with a strong record of scholarly research and publication, inclusive teaching and mentoring, and creative ideas for innovative curricular programming for a diverse student body in an urban university will be of particular interest.

The teaching load is 2/2.  In addition to teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, duties include contribution to the university’s lecture-scale CORE humanities curriculum and to the department’s Certificate in Comparative Approaches to the Literatures of Africa, the Middle East and the Global South (CALAMEGS).

Ph.D. in hand by August 31, 2023 and native or near-native fluency in at least one language other than English are also priorities.

Application materials are due November 5th and must include a cover letter, a complete CV, and two sample syllabi. Applicants should provide three letters of reference. Because diversity and inclusion are an important part of the NYU mission, we request that you include a paragraph in your cover letter telling us how diversity and inclusion figure into your past, present, and future teaching, research, and community engagement (additional information can be found here: http://as.nyu.edu/departments/facultydiversity/recruitment/diversity-statements.html).

Review of complete applications will begin November 15th. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2023, pending budgetary and administrative approval. Please submit applications through the following link: https://apply.interfolio.com/114401
