Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction in Norwegian

The Department of Germanic Studies​ at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction in the Norwegian language ​and culture, to begin September 1st, 2023. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching nine credit hours (the equivalent of three courses) each of two long semesters, including accelerated first-year and second-year Norwegian, according to departmental needs. ​The successful candidate will also be expected to strengthen the Norwegian program, offer extra-curricular activities (such as conversation groups), and to contribute to service in the Department of Germanic Studies. Located at the flagship campus of the University of Texas System, our department offers a congenial and exciting context for teaching and research in Germanic languages, literatures, and cultures.

Qualifications

Candidates must have at minimum a Master's degree (Ph.D. is preferred) in Scandinavian Studies with a focus on Norwegian or in a related field (any area of Scandinavian studies, linguistics, or a related field), and native or near-native fluency in Norwegian. A record of teaching excellence in a university context is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will also be able to contribute to the department's undergraduate minor in German/Scandinavian/Dutch.
