Assistant Professor, Anglophone Literature

INTRODUCTION

The English Department at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Anglophone Literature, to be based at the Waterbury campus.

The successful candidate will pursue research in Anglophone Literature, ideally with expertise in African, Caribbean, South Asian, and/or diasporic literature. A secondary specialization in British Literature would be welcome. Further areas of focus may include Young Adult Literature; ecocriticism and environmental justice; sovereignty, decoloniality, and nation; and/or performance and media studies. In addition to excellence in research, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to pedagogy and will be expected to teach in both our undergraduate and graduate programs.

The UConn English Department, active at Storrs and all of UConn’s regional campuses, is home to more than 60 full-time faculty members whose engaged teaching, scholarly reputations, publications, and creative work help make UConn one of the top public research institutions in the nation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. or international equivalent in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field by the start date of employment.
  • A strong record of, or demonstrated potential for, scholarly excellence in the fields of Anglophone Literature and/or British Literature.
  • Experience of, or demonstrated capacity for, teaching courses in Anglophone Literature, and/or British Literature.
  • Evidence of a deep commitment to supporting diversity, inclusion, and equity in a higher education setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A record of, or demonstrated potential for, expertise in one of the following areas of focus: Young Adult Literature; ecocriticism and environmental justice; sovereignty, decoloniality, and nation; performance and media studies.
  • Evidence of working with first-generation college students.
  • An interest in engaging with local and/or national community organizations in relevant areas of expertise.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2023. The standard teaching expectation is two courses per semester. The University offers a highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
