Assistant Professor, Department of English

The Department of English at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, invites applications for a faculty appointment in medieval literature at the Assistant Professor level. The anticipated appointment start date is August 25, 2023. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment.

We are seeking to appoint an early-career scholar working on the literatures and cultures of medieval Britain, from the earliest vernacular writings of the pre-Conquest era through the fifteenth century. Among our many areas of interest: history of the book and text technologies, from manuscript to print; Anglo-Latin, Old English, Old Norse, and the French of England; race, ethnicity, and the global Middle Ages; and digital/computational humanities, among others.

The department seeks a candidate who can contribute, through research, teaching, and service, to the mission of a well-established academic community.
