Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Chinese

The Department of Languages and Culture Studies (https://languages.charlotte.edu/) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences seeks a Lecturer or an Assistant Teaching Professor in Chinese to teach all levels of Chinese language and culture and to serve as Coordinator for the Chinese program, supervising our Chinese MA Fellow and/or new part-time hires. This is a three-year, full-time, renewable, non-tenure-track position to begin August 2023. It includes full benefits.

Required qualifications include: an M.A. or a PhD. in Chinese or related field such as applied linguistics or foreign language education; native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin; excellent skills in spoken and written English; at least 3 years of experience teaching all levels of Chinese language and culture at the university level; ability to team teach; strong commitment to promoting diversity and working with faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds. 

Preferred qualifications include: Experience in coordinating and growing a Chinese program, advising a Chinese Club, ability to plan and coordinate a variety of extracurricular cultural experiences for students.

Job duties include teaching 12 credit hours per semester, serving as Chinese coordinator, advising undergraduate minors in Chinese, contributing to service activities in the Department, and maintaining a current professional profile. 

The Department of Languages and Culture Studies is a dynamic, research-intensive department with a commitment to balancing curricular tradition and innovation.
