St. Lawrence University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Digital Media & Film, with a specialization in filmmaking and digital media production. This tenure-track position will begin in August 2023. We encourage applications from a range of filmmaker-scholars working in different film genres (like documentary, narrative, or experimental), whose creative work and scholarship integrates social engagement, activism, and critical analysis of the social impacts of contemporary media cultures and technologies.
The successful candidate will play a formative role in St. Lawrence’s new Digital Media & Film major by teaching different levels of production courses in filmmaking and moving-image media, as well as our flagship introductory course “Film & Media Action” (required of all majors), which engages students’ interests in digital content creation, filmmaking, and social justice. We seek a dynamic teacher and practitioner who is aware of new developments in our evolving media landscape, and who is prepared to support a diverse group of students in making and critiquing media that will make an impact in the world. Applicants must also have strong knowledge of video production equipment and editing software (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, etc.) We especially encourage applications from candidates with expertise in contemporary Black, Latinx, indigenous, feminist, LGBTQ, and/or environmentalist filmmaking and media production. The ability to teach an introduction to film studies courses is desirable. Teaching load is 3 courses per semester.
Ph.D. or M.F.A. in relevant fields; and demonstrated ability to teach filmmaking and digital media production at the undergraduate level.
Interested applicants must apply online at http://employment.stlawu.edu, uploading all required materials which are defined in the “special instructions to applicant” section. Review of applications begins January 14, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled. Questions about the position may be directed to Sarah Knobel, Search Chair at email@example.com.
All offers of employment are contingent upon the finalist successfully passing a background (including criminal records) check.
