Teaching Assistant Professor - German

The Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor in German to start on August 14, 2023. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. Initial appointment is for a period of three academic years. The opportunity for reappointment will be based on performance and continued need.

We seek a candidate who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and service, has the ability to coordinate beginning and intermediate language courses, and can support various language and culture programs.

Duties will include:
• Teaching two German language or culture courses per semester
• Coordinating teaching assistants in the elementary and intermediate language programs
• Opportunity to help shape the curriculum within the German program and engage with the growing International Engineering Program

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in German, German Studies, German Pedagogy, or German Linguistics conferred by the start of the position

  • Native or near-native fluency in English and German

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching German language at the university level

  • Experience coordinating basic language programs

  • Experience teaching language for special purposes, especially in STEM fields

  • Experience participating in curricular development
