Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) - Japanese

Bard College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Japanese, literature, language, and culture, to begin in Fall 2023. Such research directions might include: Japanese literature’s engagement with other regions, especially Southeast Asia; transcultural exchange prior to the modern era; writing and the colonial and postcolonial histories of the Japanese empire; the cultural production of the Japanese diaspora in the Americas; the work of immigrant authors in Japan; or deep engagement with the practice of literary translation, among others. The position is supported by a generous grant from the Japan Foundation.
