Assistant Professor of English

The Department of English at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh seeks applications for a tenure track position in African American Literature. We are an award-winning Department that prizes and supports excellent teaching, research, and creative activity, and our talented faculty and staff collaborate often in many of our University’s thriving interdisciplinary programs, including African American Studies, Honors, Gender Studies, Sustainability Studies, and Social Justice Studies. As one of the largest departments in the College of Letters and Science, we offer both an undergraduate degree and the MA in English, and we provide major staffing for the University’s innovative University Studies (general education) program as well. The successful applicant for this position will be a collegial, collaborative colleague, an active scholar, and a dynamic teacher. They will offer general education, upper- and graduate-level courses in African American literature and culture, including a core literature course in our vibrant African American Studies program primarily for the Oshkosh campus but with the expectation of contribution to all campuses and course delivery modes (in-person, online [synchronous/asynchronous/hybrid]). We are also particularly interested in applicants who can contribute in meaningful ways to one or more of our other interdisciplinary programs, and who will enjoy advising and mentoring students and serving the Department, the University, and the larger community.

Qualifications
Required:
• Ph.D. in English or African American Studies conferred by September 1, 2023
• A record of college teaching experience in general and upper level courses in African American Studies
• Evidence of an active research agenda relevant for African American literature
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred:
• Strong preparation in African American Literature
• Experience teaching at the graduate level
• Record of contribution to interdisciplinary programs such as African American Studies, Sustainability Studies, Social Justice Studies, and/or Gender Studies
