Assistant Professor of African American Literature and Culture

Southern New Hampshire University's traditional campus in Manchester, NH is looking for an Assistant Professor of African American Literature and Culture, with an expected start date of August 2023. This is a cross-disciplinary position with teaching responsibilities in both English and Humanities, and course subjects include African American literature, post-colonial or transnational literature, multiethnic literature, and foundational Humanities and General Education courses. You could also teach a course in African American/Non-Western art history. We invite you to describe any additional specializations you would bring to the position. You will contribute to special programs, speakers, panels, or other programs suited to your interests. Previous classroom experience (at the college or secondary level) and a passion for teaching is required. The typical teaching load is 4/3 with an approved scholarly activity plan. You will report to the Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education.

This is a full-time, permanent campus-based position instructing traditional-aged students in a residential setting. This opportunity includes the possibility of summer teaching for additional compensation. Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2022, and continue until the position is filled.

  • Develop, prepare, and teach courses following departmental needs and class schedules
  • Participate in the departmental and school-wide efforts for curriculum development, program reviews and accreditation under the supervision of the Dean/department chair
  • Advise and mentor students
