Visiting Assistant or Visiting Associate Professor of Chinese

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Chinese will play a central role in updating and developing the Chinese program's curriculum with an emphasis on professionalization, communication, and cultural awareness. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and will work closely with stakeholders and faculty in Norwich's School of Cybersecurity, an NSA Center of Academic Excellence for over 20 years, and with the Director of Norwich's Peace & War Center to promote the study of Chinese Mandarin as a strategic language and gateway to careers in the military and government agencies. Opportunities also exist to develop partnerships with Norwich's International Studies Program, the School of Business, and the International Center. We would also welcome an interest in networking and collaborating with other Senior Military Colleges and professional organizations to support the growth of the Chinese language study at Norwich.  

The typical course load for this full-time, 10-month position is 4/3 with a course release for curriculum development and partnership exploration. The start date for this position is July 1, 2023.


Requirements:

Minimum qualification includes a Ph.D. or M.A. in Chinese Language or a related field, and native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin. Applicants with equivalent and relevant professional experience will be considered. 

Candidates should provide evidence of commitment to excellent teaching, potential for excellence in scholarship, and the ability to innovate in the design and teaching of courses both in English and in Chinese.
