Assistant Professor of English & Director - Center for Writing

In addition to teaching our first-year writing sequence, the Assistant Professor of English will have opportunities to develop and teach a range of advanced writing courses, including Professional and Technical Writing, Writing for the Web, Rhetorical Criticism, and Advanced Composition, which are capped at 15 students per section.

The Director of the Center for Writing shapes the mission of the Center and its strategic plan, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across campus, develops innovative programming, and engages in reflective assessment practices. In conjunction with the Assistant Director of the Center for Writing, the Director is also responsible for ongoing development to include oversight and training of our staff of 10-14 peer writing coaches.

The typical course load for this tenure-track position is 4/3 with a 1/1 reduction for directing the Center for Writing. 


Requirements:

Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or related field by July 1, 2023; a minimum of two years of experience working in a university writing center; demonstrated excellence in teaching first-year and/or advanced writing courses; commitment to service; and potential for successful research and publication.

Preferred qualifications include demonstrated excellence in the administration of a writing center and/or experience in writing assessment and curriculum development.  Preferred qualifications also include expertise in professional writing, technical communication, media studies, and/or writing in the disciplines.
