We welcome applications for a 1-year full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Francophone Studies at Williams College for 2023-2024. We are seeking candidates with demonstrated experience in teaching all levels of the French language, and whose specializations would ideally focus on one or more of the following: film and media studies, 20-21st century cultural production, the early modern period, performance studies, environmental studies, colonial and post-colonial studies. We welcome applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field.
Candidates should have native or near-native fluency in French, and hold a Ph.D.
The 1-year position will begin in Fall 2023 and carries both language and content teaching responsibilities. The course load is 2-2 and divided into language and literature teaching duties. As part of mentoring and institutional support, Visiting Assistant Professors are invited to participate in the College’s First Three faculty mentoring program:
In their cover letter, candidates should provide evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching of French Language and of French & Francophone Studies. The cover letter should thus explicitly discuss:
• the candidate’s demonstrated experience teaching French language
• a brief description of two content courses, either new or previously taught.
• the candidate’s experience (and/or ideas) on how to create inclusive classrooms for a student population that is broadly diverse.
We anticipate in-person teaching in 2023-2024, and a 4-5 day weekly teaching schedule for this position. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, and 3 letters of reference by January 16th, 2023 to: Leyla Rouhi, Chair, Romance Languages, through Interfolio, using this link:
