The Department of English at Texas Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor in Xicanx/Chicanx/Latinx Rhetorics to begin August 2023. Candidates must possess a completed Ph.D. by August 2023.

The successful candidate will have a record of and/or show promise in scholarship in rhetoric that displays a historical understanding of Xicanx/Chicanx/Latinx communities in the U.S. and experience and knowledge of working with ethnically diverse cultural perspectives. They will demonstrate experience in teaching interdisciplinary introductory and upper-division courses in Xicanx/Chicanx/Latinx Rhetorics and Composition and in teaching first-year writing. They will teach from an intersectional, social justice framework that centers race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and/or migration status.

We welcome applications from scholars whose work engages power relations within and across Latinx communities. Any of the racial and ethnic experiences of Latinidad, including from indigenous, African-descended/Black, Asian, Middle Eastern, and hybrid perspectives. We also welcome applicants whose work engages gender and sexuality as it intersects with Latinx/Chicanx/Xicanx epistemologies, including decolonial feminisms, two-spirit, gender diverse, and queer studies approaches. This position is one of three hires under the critical discourse of decoloniality.

Other duties will include mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, carrying out a scholarly research agenda, and contributing service at the department and university levels. The position carries a 3/2 teaching load, a competitive salary, and internal research support.

Required Qualifications:
• PhD in Rhetoric and Composition; English; Communications; Literacy Studies; Chicana/o Studies; Latina/o Studies; or related fields
• Evidence of or potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate level
• Evidence of or potential for academic research, scholarship and creative activities leading to publication and presentation in the field of rhetoric
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Department Details
The TCU Department of English has 33 full-time faculty members who lead two majors (English and Writing), three minors (English, Writing, and Creative Writing), an MA program and two PhD programs (English and Rhetoric and Composition).

School/College Description
Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 17 Bachelor of Arts and 7 Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
