Birmingham-Southern College announces a tenure-track position in Spanish at the level of Assistant Professor beginning August 2020. PhD in Spanish, area of specialization open but applicants with expertise in Spanish peninsular literature and culture are highly preferred. Training in teaching Spanish language to heritage learners is a plus. Near-completion ABD will be considered. Native or near-native command of Spanish and English is required. The successful candidate will understand and uphold the academic rigor of the Spanish program at BSC and will have a strong commitment both to teaching in the liberal arts setting as well as maintaining ongoing scholarship. BSC’s small, collegial Spanish department seeks a colleague who will contribute to our hands-on applied Spanish for the Workplace program with engaging literature and culture courses. Proven success in the classroom is a must. Teaching load is three courses per semester plus one January Exploration term course, primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching both language/literature and culture courses.
