The Department of Global Studies & Languages in the College of Arts and Letters at Idaho State University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal (up to 3 years) based on performance and departmental needs.
This faculty member will teach Japanese language and East Asian culture courses at the undergraduate level. They will teach three courses per semester distributed across our Japanese and Global Studies programs. While our main need is in Japanese, we are interested in establishing a Chinese language program in the future. Thus candidates who could teach both languages are particularly welcome to apply.
As an integral part of our program, they will develop coursework in East Asian languages as well as literature, film, politics, and/or culture (depending on areas of interest and knowledge), help grow our partnership with Ibaraki University in Japan, assist with curricular development and assessment at the undergraduate level, and work with us to grow this language and emphasis area.
The department is housed within the ISU College of Arts and Letters. - Ph.D. (ABD with a confirmed completion date before August 2023 may be considered) in Japanese or a related field with a proven ability to teach Japanese at the undergraduate level
- Fluency in Japanese and English
- Online teaching experience
- Ability to teach Chinese
- Experience or interest in program building and/or curriculum development
- Experience teaching diverse populations including first-generation college students
