The English Department, within Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, at Chapman University invites applications for a non-tenure-track English Instructional Assistant Professor and Writing Center Director, beginning August 2023.

Applicants must have a conferred Ph.D. in Rhetoric & Composition (or closely related field) in hand by August 2023. Applicants should provide evidence of demonstrated academic experience in writing center work and teaching. We particularly welcome candidates whose academic background and teaching evidences first-generation, multilingual, disability, and/or antiracist theory and pedagogy.
This is a full-time, non-tenure track position that includes teaching and administrative responsibilities. The successful applicant will teach lower and upper-division undergraduate courses, including a course on the Theory and Practice of Writing Tutoring and Conferencing. As Writing Center Director, the successful applicant will administer the daily operations of the Writing Center, including recruiting, interviewing and hiring tutors; coordinating, staffing and supervising in person and online tutoring services; observing and educating tutors; maintaining and updating the Center’s website and other outreach platforms; creating and updating a handbook for tutors. Non-tenure-track faculty members are evaluated on their teaching, and service.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for the final candidate.
