Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in Spanish

The Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) at Utah State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Spanish. For this academic-year & teaching-centered staff position, we seek to hire an individual with experience teaching Hispanic-American literature and culture as well as other advanced coursework in Spanish. This position, located on the Logan campus, has a 3/3 teaching load. The anticipated start date is August 2023.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach Advanced undergraduate courses in Hispanic-American literature and culture (Colonial period through the Twenty-First Century) and Foundations of Dual Language Immersion
  • Teach other Spanish-language courses as needed, such as Latinx literature and culture, Introduction to Textual Analysis, and/or Advanced Composition and Conversation
  • Cultivate an active profile as a researcher in Hispanic-American literature and culture, Border Studies literature and culture, and/or Latinx/Chicanx literature and culture
  • Collaborate with the WLC department head and the Spanish Section Coordinator

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Spanish by August 15, 2023
  • Native or Near-Native proficiency in Spanish
  • Evidence of experience teaching advanced undergraduate Hispanic-American literature and culture and/or other advanced-level undergraduate coursework in Spanish
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed PhD in Spanish by date of application
  • Ability to teach contemporary Mexican literature and culture, Mexican Women Writers, Border Studies literature and culture, and/or LatinX/ChicanX literature and culture
  • Experience teaching in the Utah DLI or Bridge Programs
