The Department of Classics and Modern Languages at Xavier University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, yearly-renewable Teaching Professor of Spanish, starting in Fall 2023. The Teaching Professor position is renewable on a yearly basis, with the potential after six years for promotion to Senior Teaching Professor with a rolling two-year renewable contract. Candidates must be committed to outstanding teaching in a liberal arts tradition of active learning, knowledgeable of best practices of second language acquisition and pedagogy, familiar with new technologies for teaching languages, and willing to provide service consistent with the mission of Jesuit higher education. Teaching load will consist of four courses per semester, typically in the beginning and intermediate language acquisition sequence.
The successful candidate will hold an M.A. or Ph.D. in Spanish, Hispanic Linguistics, or a closely related field; Ph.D. preferred. All candidates must have native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English, and should demonstrate promise for outstanding teaching and commitment to student recruitment and retention in the areas of language and culture.
