The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position (nine-month appointment) at the level of Assistant Professor of 18th and 19th Century British Literature beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. The successful applicant will be qualified to teach 18th Century British Literature and 19th Century British Literature at the upper-division and graduate levels; teach survey courses in British literature; teach general education courses in literature and/or writing; and advise graduate students.
We are especially interested in applicants who bring complementary areas of expertise such as Environmental and climate literature; Indigenous literature; Black literature; Latinx literature; Asian-American literature; World literature, including African and Asian literature; postcolonial literature; and LGBTQ+ literature.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks and the UAF English Department enjoy stunning mountain views from a hill above Fairbanks: an ideal home base from which to enjoy outdoor recreation as well as a robust array of artistic, musical, and theatrical events. UAF is a R2 university; the English Department offers the BA in English, the MA in English, the MFA in Creative Writing, and the MFA/MA in Creative Writing and Literature. English is also the home of undergraduate minors in English; Creative Writing; and Ancient, Medieval, and Early Modern Studies as well as an extensive array of undergraduate general education courses in writing and literature. The English Department cross-lists courses with other units on campus such as Arctic & Northern Studies; Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development; Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Linguistics; and Film & Performing Arts. Faculty also engage in a variety of collaborations with UAF’s arts and science departments as well as Fairbanks community organizations.
