Position Description

Yale-NUS College is a liberal arts and science college of 1000 students, with approximately 120 full-time faculty. The College is a collaboration between Yale University and the National University of Singapore. Yale-NUS students are intellectually outstanding, with an acceptance rate of less than 7%, and internationally diverse, representing over seventy countries. They go through a unique and rigorous Common Curriculum in the sciences, social sciences and humanities that combines Western and Eastern traditions with contemporary skills.

The Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Professorship supports an endowed post for a distinguished professor in the humanities or social sciences. At this time, the College invites applications for this endowed chair in the discipline of Philosophy, at the rank of tenured Professor. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching, with teaching strength in an area of non-Western philosophy such as Chinese, Indian, or Arabic/Islamic philosophy.

Applicants should have a relevant PhD and demonstrate an outstanding track record for their career stage.  A clear ability and passion for undergraduate education is essential.  The incoming faculty member would join a committed team dedicated to the development and teaching of the Philosophy Major and Yale-NUS’s flagship Common Curriculum (see http://www.yale-nus.edu.sg/curriculum/common-curriculum ). 

The appointee will be expected to begin duties in time for the start of the 2020-2021 academic year.

Faculty receive internationally competitive salaries, start-up grants and a yearly travel and research allowance, and are able to access additional funding from Yale-NUS, National University of Singapore, and Singapore’s Ministry of Education. Most faculty qualify for highly subsidized faculty housing.
