Tenure-track assistant professor of American Studies and English

The Alwaleed Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of American Studies and English whose focus is pre-20th-century literature and culture. The position will be a joint appointment between CASAR and the Department of English.

 

The candidate selected will teach a 2/2 load and must be able to teach an undergraduate survey in American literature through 1900, including works by authors such as Bradstreet, Equiano, Emerson, Thoreau, Dickinson, Melville and Douglass. The candidate will also teach an “Introduction to American Studies” course and courses in her or his area of interest, which might include comparative African diasporas in the Americas, Indigenous performances, culture and the environment, early American women’s writing or any other pre-20th-century specialization. Applicants must have a PhD in an appropriate field by the time of appointment.
