The Dominican University Department of Spanish Language and Transcultural Studies (SLTS) seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track line in Spanish Literature for the 2023-2024 academic year. The candidate must be able to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses. Responsibilities consist of teaching 21 workload hours per academic year, advising, and service to the department; participation in university life is encouraged.

Required qualifications: 

 

Successful candidates will have ABD status, Ph.D. preferred, in Spanish Literature and Culture. Candidates must show native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English, evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and strong commitment to liberal arts education. Dominican seeks candidates who are committed to working with diverse student and community populations.

 

Preferred qualifications: 

 

We will consider generalists and scholars from any area of study, but expertise in the following fields will be prioritized: Latinx, Afro-Latinx, Chicanx, Indigenous, Immigration or Borderland Studies in Spanish, Contemporary Latin/Mexican American or US Latine Literature and Culture. Due to growing student interest in these fields, this scholar is expected to contribute to strengthening the SLTS program in this area in alignment with Dominican’s mission of creating “a more just and humane world.” We seek applicants that also show interest in developing community partnerships and enhancing our Hispanic Serving Identity, and with expertise in teaching heritage speakers of Spanish.
