Visiting Assistant Professor in 20th/21st-century African American, Caribbean, or Black Diaspora Lit

The English Department at Washington College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in 20th/21st-century African American, Caribbean, or Black Diaspora Literature starting in August 2023. The desired area of expertise is flexible with preference given to applicants who expand the range of expertise of current English Department faculty. Founded in 1782, Washington College is a selective liberal arts institution located in Chestertown, Maryland on a major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. The College has a tradition of excellent undergraduate teaching, and the English Department is excited to sustain and further develop our curricular offerings in African American literature.  This is a great opportunity to gain experience working in a small liberal arts college setting, with class sizes averaging 12-15 students.

Qualifications

Candidates must have PhD in English, Black Studies, or a related discipline in hand before the position begins in August 2023. Successful candidates will show promise in undergraduate teaching and research and will be expected to teach three courses each semester, including First-Year Seminars, African American literature surveys, and upper-level seminars in their area of specialization.
