The Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Program seeks applicants for a position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning August 2023. A PhD and experience beyond graduate school in teaching all levels of undergraduate Japanese language courses are required. Areas of specialization could include Japanese literature, Japanese cinema, Japanese linguistics, or other related fields.

The standard annual teaching load is five courses. Each year, the successful candidate will offer three to four Japanese language courses and one to two courses in the candidate's area of expertise, as well as occasional courses that contribute to the College's general education requirements. The successful candidate will also be involved in supervising senior capstone projects. The Japanese Program is a vibrant, tight-knit community. Many of our students take four years of language courses and thus cultivate strong bonds with peers and faculty. There are opportunities to participate in a variety of interdisciplinary programs including Film & Media Studies; Gender Studies;

Indigeneity, Race & Ethnic Studies; Environmental Humanities; and the Global Studies Concentration. The College provides a generous pre-tenure sabbatical leave program and professional development support for both research and teaching.

Salary Range: $73,000-$85,000
