We seek an outstanding scholar who specializes in the fields of English and Theatre. We welcome applications from candidates with doctoral degrees in literary studies, theatre studies, and related fields. The successful candidate will contribute to our research in Theatre and Performance, and teach on the department's undergraduate and postgraduate programs. We welcome candidates with interests in all areas of literature and theatre, especially those whose work aligns with research priorities in theatre and performance history; theatre, race, and politics; and the Environmental Humanities.

You will possess a PhD or equivalent; will have an emergent or already established international reputation in an appropriate field of study; and will have relevant teaching experience. You will also demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and will join a teaching team with strengths in innovative teaching methods, including open-space learning and practical workshops, as well as more traditional lectures and seminars. You will contribute to teaching on the English and Theatre BA degree, which may include Drama and Democracy, European Theatre, and Shakespeare; and serve as the program’s Admissions officer including promoting the degree at Open Days. You will be encouraged to shape and develop these modules in line with your own teaching and research interests. You will also develop new research-led modules and supervise PhD research. You will join a vibrant culture and research environment, both in the department and the Faculty of Arts.

The department values diversity, challenges discrimination, and promotes equality. We are committed to strengthening our equality and diversity agenda both in relation to our community (students and staff), our teaching, research, and our curricula. Applications are encouraged from under-represented groups, including people who identify as Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic, women, members of the LGBTQIUA+ communities, people with disabilities, and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We also strongly encourage those who have studied or worked at post-92 institutions.
