Assistant Professor--Tenure Track English and Communications

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of English & Communication (https://www.umassd.edu/cas/english/) to begin September 1, 2023.


We seek an expert in Strategic Communication to teach in our B.A. in Communication and M.A. in Professional Writing & Communication programs. Successful candidates will join a program grounded in rhetorical studies with course offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels in professional writing and communication. Successful candidates will demonstrate ways curriculum and research will expand opportunities and experiences for our diverse students.

Duties: The successful candidate will primarily teach and advise undergraduate students in our BA in Communication and M.A. in Professional Writing & Communication programs; contribute service to the university and/or the public; and publish research. This position has a 3/3 course-load.

The successful candidate will teach Strategic Communication as well as courses in an area of expertise, such as: Public Relations; Speech Communication; Health Communication; Risk Communication; Science/Environmental Communication; Mass Communication; Data Analytics; Global, intercultural, and multicultural communication within
strategic communication.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Communication or closely related field. ABD considered, but Ph.D. must be conferred by September 1, 2023. Demonstrated research trajectory in strategic communication and one or more preferred areas.  Demonstrated success teaching communication at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience or research in one or more of the following areas is preferred: Public Relations, Speech Communication; Health Communication, Science/Environmental Communication, Risk Communication; Mass Communication; Data Analytics; Global, Intercultural, and Multicultural Communication trends
within strategic communication.
