The Department of Spanish at Western Michigan University invites applications for the position of Faculty Specialist II (teaching professor). This is a full-time, tenure track, academic year (9-month) position to begin August of 2023. WMU is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Major duties
The successful candidate will teach all levels of Spanish courses both on campus and in area high-schools; teach course on methodology for Spanish education grades 6-12; mentor and supervise intern teachers, including work with mentor teachers in local school districts; coordinate dual-enrollment programs; contribute to the missions of the Department, College, and University; and carry on service to the Department, College, University, the profession, and the community.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Spanish or related field; native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English; demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion; experience teaching Spanish in higher education; familiarity with ACTFL standards and proficiency areas, including the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI).
Desired Qualifications
Experience teaching Spanish at secondary level (grades 6-12); experience advising students toward earning teacher certification for Spanish grades K-12.
