Postdoctoral research associate in international humanities

The Department of Hispanic Studies and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Brown University jointly invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in International Humanities offered by the Cogut Institute for the Humanities for a term of two years beginning July 1, 2023.

The successful candidate will have worked extensively on the study of race, ethnicity, and migration in Latin America and the Latinx USA as manifest in cultural forms including literature, film, music, dance, and the visual arts. We invite applicants whose research centers on any time period from the Colonial to the present and are especially interested in scholars and teachers of Mexico, the Mexican-American borderlands, the Circum-Caribbean, Central America, and Latin American diasporas in the United States. 

Demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching as well as fluency in both Spanish and English and a commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion are essential. The successful candidate will teach two courses per year in the Department of Hispanic Studies with cross-listings by the Cogut Institute. At the Cogut Institute, the fellow is expected to participate in the weekly Tuesday seminars as well as other activities.

Hispanic Studies is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

A stipend of $61,500 is offered, with an increase to $63,907 the second year, plus benefits and a research budget of $2,000 per year.

The PhD must be in hand by July 1, 2023 and must have been awarded in the last five years.

Recipients of a Ph.D. from Brown University are ineligible.

Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
