Director of Language Programs

Reporting to the Chair of the Department, the Director of Language Programs will work closely with the Chair and the Student Affairs Officer (SAO) to coordinate all aspects of language instruction in ELTS. This includes overseeing the language component of the majors and minors, hiring and appointing TAs, training and mentoring graduate teaching assistants, developing assessments for language pedagogy, coordinating course offerings, building collaborations with other campus units, expanding language curricular offerings through in-person and on-line programming, and serving as an ambassador to promote the language programs. The Director is expected to maintain an active research agenda and teach three (3) courses during the academic year (generally one per quarter).

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in French, German, Italian, Foreign Language Education, or a closely related field at the time of hire, with native or near-native proficiency in French, German, and/or Italian. The individual must have experience coordinating or directing a language program, supervising and training graduate teaching assistants, and teaching undergraduate and graduate students, with a demonstrated record of excellence in curriculum development and expertise in the implementation of new technological approaches to second language acquisition. Additionally, the candidate should have demonstrated administrative skills and experience working with language instructors at various levels. Finally, the candidate should have demonstrated success in meeting the needs of diverse student populations, working with diverse communities, and building inclusive classrooms.
