Assistant Professor, German Studies, 1-Year Visiting Position

Position Description
The Department of German and Russian Studies at The College of Wooster invites applications for a one-year visiting position in German Studies or a related area at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2023. We are looking for a broadly trained, dynamic professional who can teach language and culture courses and contribute ideas and initiative to a small but engaged department. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (24% domestic students of color and 17% international students); all applicants are expected to discuss their experience working with diverse student populations. 

Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to teach language and culture courses and advise research projects in diverse areas related to German Studies. The teaching load is 6 courses and includes 2 sections of introductory German, an advanced language course, and a culture course in English, as well as supervision of 1 senior thesis as part of the College’s Independent Study program. Area of specialization is open. Successful candidates will be expected to participate fully in weekly German events. Experience in proficiency-oriented or literacy-based language teaching highly desirable. Ph.D. in hand by start-date and native or near-native fluency in German required.
