The programs of Africana Studies and American Studies at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invite applications for a two-year, non-tenure track lecturer instructional position that will begin August 10, 2023. The appointment may be renewable contingent on a successful performance review, department/program needs, and availability of funds.
We seek an individual with expertise in critical digital race studies. This includes but is not limited to scholarly studies on the ways that race and racism are expressed and experienced on the internet, hate speech and hate groups on the internet, race critical code studies, intersectional analysis of discourse on social media and online interactions, digital ethnography, and progressive digital archive projects.
Applicants are expected to teach introductory courses in Africana Studies and American Studies, and upper-level courses in their area of specialization. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a [3-3] teaching load.
Scholars with all but dissertation status will be considered. That said, a Ph.D., in hand is preferred at the time appointment begins on August 10, 2023. Candidates with degrees in Africana Studies, American Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Literary Studies, Performance Studies, or Political Science are preferred. Scholars doing work in digital humanities and other relevant fields will also be considered. Previous teaching experience is strongly preferred.
