Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish

Penn State Behrend is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, assistant teaching professor or lecturer (FTM) position in Spanish beginning August 2023.

 

  • A Master's degree in Spanish or a related field is required by the appointment start date. A PhD in Spanish or a related field is preferred.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required.
  • Experience teaching beginning and intermediate level Spanish at the college level is expected.
  • Familiarity with General Education courses and ACTFL proficiency guidelines are desirable.

 


The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching three Spanish language courses per semester, with the possibility of teaching General Education courses and advanced courses on Latin American literature, culture, and language in future semesters. Evidence of scholarly activity will be expected. The candidate ideally should possess the ability to assist in other arenas of Humanities and Social Sciences (such as but not limited to English Language Learning, Digital Humanities, and other related fields).

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences has about 80 full-time faculty members, offers ten bachelor's degrees (Arts Administration; Communication; Creative Writing; Digital Media, Arts, and Technology; Elementary and Early Childhood Education; English; General Arts and Sciences; History; Political Science; and Psychology) and one master's degree (Applied Clinical Psychology.) The school is also home to the languages and the arts. The School supports a growing, all-campus interest in research that addresses issues of women's health or energy & sustainability.

Erie, Pennsylvania is a metropolitan area of more than a quarter million people located on the southern shores of Lake Erie, two hours from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo.
