The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for a non-tenure track, 9-month, renewable Lecturer position in Spanish in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures beginning August 2023. The successful candidate must be committed to the university’s goal of inclusiveness and work effectively with persons of all races, genders, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, and religions.


Master of Arts. PhD or ABD preferred. Teaching experience at the college level and strong commitment to excellence in teaching. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States beginning August 2023.



Teach four 3-credit courses per semester at all levels of instruction, from elementary to upper-level language classes in Spanish. Coursework in or experience teaching Hispanic linguistics, professional Spanish, and/or Spanish as a heritage language preferred.  

Departmental and institutional service is expected.


The Department:

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures believes in the power of languages. We believe that language learning promotes the understanding, appreciation, and inclusion of diversity, and that language has the power to bridge cultural differences, resolve conflicts, and lead to reconciliation.  

We teach language, literature, and culture courses in and about 15 different languages, including ASL, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Ancient Greek, Biblical and Modern Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swahili. Students can major in Deaf Studies, French, and Spanish, and minor in Deaf Studies, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. In collaboration with the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, we coordinate the minor in linguistics. We also offer graduate courses through our post-baccalaureate certificate in professional Spanish, supporting the University’s current efforts towards a designation as a high research activity institution.
