At Lang, social justice is the ethical core of a liberal arts education. The college is committed to ensuring an equitable, inclusive, and socially just environment for our students, staff, and faculty. That commitment requires recruiting students, staff, and faculty who reflect the diversity of thought, experiences, and identities of our global society. It also requires pedagogy, policies, and practices that institutionalize the values of equity, inclusion, and social justice.
The New School is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups, as well as candidates who share this commitment.
We seek applicants specializing in digital media and cultural theory, ideally focusing on traditions beyond North America and Europe, or indigenous or African-American perspectives. We especially welcome applications from cultural theorists whose research engages the formal conditions of media—material, economic, affective, biopolitical, and geopolitical.
The successful candidate will design undergraduate courses in their areas of specialization and have the capacity to teach one or more of our core introductory lecture courses, including Introduction to Cultural Studies or Introduction to Media Studies. The teaching load is five courses per year with the expectation of some programmatic administrative work and service to the college and university.
Candidates must have:
● teaching experience
● a clear research plan
● strong evidence of the ability to publish high-quality refereed research
● a PhD in hand in cultural studies, media studies, social and political thought or a closely related field at the time of application
● ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy
