Lecturer in Native American and/or Indigenous Studies

The Committee on Degrees in History and Literature and the Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights at Harvard University seek applications for a jointly appointed Lecturer in Native American and/or Indigenous Studies. Especially encouraged to apply are candidates whose work foregrounds interdisciplinary methodologies (including Indigenous methods), and whose teaching can engage arts, literatures, media, and other elements of past and present cultural production across multiple geographic areas and historical periods.

The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2023 and will carry a 2:2 teaching load, with senior thesis advising counting as one course per year. Lecturers will be responsible for designing and executing an interdisciplinary “Topics in Native American and Indigenous Studies” lecture course, interdisciplinary tutorial programs for sophomores and juniors, directing senior honors theses, advising students on curricular matters, evaluating essays and senior theses, conducting senior oral examinations, and teaching seminars of their own design. The Lecturer position is for three years, with the second two years contingent on a satisfactory performance review during the first year.

Basic Qualifications:  Doctorate in a related discipline required by the time the appointment begins, strong interdisciplinary background, teaching experience.

Additional Qualifications:  Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching is desired.
