Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor of English

The Department of English at Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor, depending on qualifications, for a position to begin August 2023. The appointment is for nine months, August-May.

The College is emerging as a nationally recognized leader in recruiting and supporting high achieving students from underserved communities. Pursuant to cultivating an inclusive college community, the search committee will holistically assess the qualifications of each applicant. We will consider an individual’s record working with students and colleagues with diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. We will also consider experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to academic success.

Qualifications
We seek a creative writer specializing in poetry. Significant creative publications, a terminal degree in creative writing in hand or near completion, and a demonstrable commitment to undergraduate teaching are required. The 3/3 teaching load will likely include Introduction to Creative Writing, Writing Poetry, the Advanced Creative Writing Workshop, and topics in contemporary literature. We are particularly interested in a writer who is able to contribute to our curriculum courses that center considerations of equity (e.g., race, gender, disability, queerness, immigration, among others). The writer we seek will become part of a thriving writing community, which includes a Creative Writing track in the English major, a Writers House, and an impressive reading series, including the F&M Emerging Writers Festival.
