The Kalamazoo College Department of German Studies invites applications for a full-time, one-year position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of German Studies for the academic year 2023-24.

Principal responsibilities will include teaching two German courses per trimester (Fall, Winter, Spring) at beginning, intermediate and advanced undergraduate levels, with all courses focusing on German language, literature, and culture. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to propose new courses as well as teach standard courses in our core curriculum, including a first-year or sophomore seminar in our Shared Passages program. Other responsibilities include helping to organize events, mentoring student Teaching Assistants, and advising senior projects. The successful applicant will work closely with permanent faculty, and support is offered for faculty research and professional development.

Applicants must have excellent proficiency in German and English. A PhD is required at the time of appointment. Applicants who are able to teach upper-level literature and culture courses will be given priority.

German Studies at Kalamazoo College is a thriving program, named an AATG Center of Excellence in 2022.
