Visiting Assistant Professor of German

The Department of German and Russian at Carleton College is seeking applications for a multiyear position in German at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning January 2024 and continuing through the 2024-2025 academic year. The successful candidate will teach four courses over two trimesters in the first year and six courses over three trimesters in the academic year 2024-25, with full benefits for the duration of the appointment. Responsibilities include team-teaching language courses with Carleton’s award-winning faculty, as well as teaching literature and culture courses in both English and German. PhD in German or a related field strongly preferred. Specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates able to teach a variety of courses with broad appeal. Requirements: native or near-native German-language skills; a strong interest and demonstrated excellence in German language pedagogy; a commitment to teaching in a liberal-arts environment; and the ability to work creatively and collectively with colleagues. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a willingness to participate actively in the life of the department and to contribute to extra-curricular and service activities.
