The Department of English at Bates College invites applications for a one-year lectureship in Early Modern Literature to begin August 1, 2023. The successful candidate will teach four courses over the 2023-2024 academic year, including two introductory classes (“Foundations of English Literature” and “Introduction to Early Modern Literature), one 200-level class (“Topics in Seventeenth-Century Literature), and one seminar (“Topics in Early Modern Literature”). Applications from candidates working anywhere between 1500-1800 are welcome, as is the ability to teach transAtlantic perspectives. The candidate will further contribute to the intellectual life of the College through senior thesis. Competitive salary, plus benefits.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD by August 1, 2023, plus record of research and teaching excellence. Candidates with demonstrated success in working with indigenous, historically underrepresented, first generation to college and other marginalized and vulnerable populations are encouraged to apply.
