Job Summary

Typically reporting to the School Chair, the Professor is a tenured/tenure-track faculty member who perform a combination of teaching, research, and service. Professors may hold administrative appointments as long as the majority of their time is dedicated to teaching, research, and service. Professors hold a terminal degree and have normally spent three or more years at the rank of Associate Professor.

Job Summary

The School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) at Georgia Tech invites applications and nominations for the Margaret T. and Henry C. Bourne Chair in Poetry. The Bourne Chair is a senior tenure-line faculty member at the rank of advanced associate or full professor.  Ideal candidates will be able to integrate the traditions of poetic practices and scholarship about poetics into a productive dialogue with other scholars across the different areas within the School of LMC, whose mission is focused on how the humanities shape and are shaped by science and technology. The School offers two undergraduate and three interdisciplinary graduate degrees, as well as several minors. The ideal candidate will thus also demonstrate a history of exceptional teaching, with prior experience in teaching poetry writing and/or other genres of creative writing at the postsecondary level.

The successful candidate will be expected to build upon the Bourne Chair’s tradition as an ambassador of poetry to students, faculty, staff, and alums at Georgia Tech. The Georgia Institute of Technology is a public technological research university in Atlanta, which makes it an important international center for arts, media, and technology. Candidates must also therefore be committed to fostering collaborations and connections between poetry and technology across the disciplines and within the broader Arts@Tech community. The Bourne Chair will interface with the thriving community of artists and art supporters in Atlanta and throughout the region, including those groups with whom the School of LMC has established partnerships.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have a Master's in Fine Arts degree, a Ph.D. in Creative Writing, or a Ph.D. in English (or closely related degree field) from an accredited university.  Candidates must possess an internationally recognized publication record in poetry, with multiple full-length collections from reputable presses.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience and/or publication in other genres (e.g., fiction, creative non-fiction, screenwriting, visual narratives, digital narratives, etc.) is also welcome.  Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience are highly preferred. The ideal candidate will also have experience cultivating partnerships and professional relationships internally and externally, especially in the area of development and grant writing.
