Assistant or Associate Professor of German

The German Department at Hunter College invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 2023.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses (typically a 3-3 load) in German language, literature and culture, both in the target language and in English. Related duties may include advising students, developing technology-enhanced curricular materials, and contributing to program building, internships, study abroad, and assessment of learning outcomes. Other services may include committee work within the department and across campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant or Associate Professor:

Doctoral degree in German language and literature, Germanic Studies, or a closely related field, in hand at time of appointment. Fluency in German.

The successful candidate will have a promising or established agenda for research in the German language, literature and/or culture. A track record of excellent undergraduate teaching, a sustained focus on second language teaching, and training in proficiency-based teaching (including the oral proficiency interview or OPI) are strongly preferred.

VACCINE REQUIREMENT

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

Associate Professor: $67,784 - $117,805
