Visiting Assistant Professor of French

The French Program at Centre College is seeking a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor to teach a range of courses in French, from the introductory level to advanced undergraduate courses. The successful applicant must have either a PhD (or equivalent) or an ABD status in French or French Studies, experience with teaching undergraduates in French, and be committed to using inclusive and engaging pedagogies. Native to near-native proficiency in French is a must, as well as the capacity to teach content-courses, including during our January term. A generalist training and an emphasis upon pre-Revolutionary French literature or culture is desirable.  The yearly teaching load is approximately 6 courses (18 credit-hours in total), with typical class sizes ranging from 10 to 19 students. The salary is competitive and includes benefits.  

Our program boasts semester-long study-abroad opportunities for students in Strasbourg, France, and a highly selective immersion program in Nantes, France.  French is situated more broadly within the French and Arabic Program, part of a thriving set of language programs at Centre College, including Ancient Greek, Chinese, German, Japanese, Latin, Spanish, as well as Romance languages for reading knowledge.
